Having a martial art background does provide a strong foundation to study in this art however, it is not necessary.  Studying swordsmanship requires a high degree of focus and attention, thus we generally accept students starting at sixteen years of age.   

As with most things, there is a startup expense associated with purchasing the required uniform which consists of a keikogi (shirt), hakama (pants) and obi (belt).  Our art is not specific to a color or pattern.  Feel free to purchase what you like however, it is highly recommended to discuss with your instructor prior to placing your order. We will be more than happy to walk you through the sizing and purchasing process.

Though limited, the tools used in class, bokken (wooden sword) and iaito (unsharpened katana) may be borrowed from the school. Eventually you will be encouraged to purchase your own items.  Again, we will be more than happy to assist in this purchase.
