In recognition of his unwavering commitment to this art, Eric Zimmerman was entrusted with the leadership of Santō Ichi-ryū ©, LLC (SIR) as Principal Instructor following the passing of Clayton McCombs, Sensei in 2021. Zimmerman, Sensei extends his heartfelt gratitude to the McCombs family, the Cheng family of Cheng's Martial Art School, and The Universal System of Martial Arts for this esteemed honor. With a profound understanding of the art and a passion for its preservation, Eric has pledged to uphold the integrity of SIR, ensuring its continued growth and relevance for future generations.
Eric’s journey in the martial arts began at the age of nine and has since encompassed extensive training in disciplines such as Western Boxing, Taekwondo/Hapkido (Master Yun), American Kenpo (Grandmaster Shen Cheung), Kenjutsu/Iaijutsu, Tuite (Clayton McCombs, Sensei), Iaido/Zen (Roshi Jules Shuzen Harris Ed.D), Northern Seven Star Praying Mantis Kung Fu (Dr. Steve L. Sun, Sifu) and Taekwondo-Chang Moo Kwan (Grandmaster Paul Cheng). In addition to Santō Ichi-ryū ©, LLC, Eric also teaches 14th to 16th century European Longsword and Western Martial Arts (studied under various organizations and clubs).
As a seasoned instructor, Eric has taught martial arts at local universities, martial arts schools, fencing organizations, and offers private lessons as well as group seminars. His dedication to student development has earned him accolades such as "Instructor of the Year" from both the United Fellowship of Martial Artists and the World Karate Union Hall of Fame.
Beyond martial arts, Eric is an avid fitness enthusiast who once set an American Powerlifting Record with the World Natural Powerlifting Federation. With his passion and enthusiasm, Eric inspires students from all walks of life to pursue excellence in both martial arts and personal fitness.
