In recognition of his unwavering commitment and dedication to the art, Santō Ichi-ryū ©, LLC (SIR) was entrusted to Eric Zimmerman as the Principal Instructor following the passing of Clayton McCombs Sensei in 2021.
Zimmerman Sensei expresses deep gratitude to the McCombs family, the Cheng family from Cheng's Martial Art School, and The Universal System of Martial Arts for this esteemed honor. His enthusiasm and profound understanding of the art serve as a strong foundation, enabling him to engage practitioners from diverse backgrounds. Eric has pledged to uphold the integrity of SIR, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
Eric’s martial arts journey began at the age of nine. Since then, he has trained in various disciplines, including Western boxing, Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, Kenpo (under Grandmaster Shen Cheung), Kenjutsu, Northern Seven Star Style Praying Mantis Kung Fu, Chang Moo Kwan, Tuite, and 14th to 16th-century European longsword.
Eric has taught at multiple venues, including a local university, various martial arts schools, fencing organizations, and also offers seminars, small group sessions, and private lessons.
In recognition of his dedication to student development, Eric has been honored with the title of "Instructor of the Year" by both the United Fellowship of Martial Artists and the World Karate Hall of Fame.
Beyond his passion for martial arts, Eric is an avid fitness enthusiast, enjoying weight lifting, jogging, sprinting and rowing. He has also set an American Powerlifting Record within the World Natural Powerlifting Federation.
