JOIN THE FAMILY
No prior martial arts experience or athletic background is required to begin studying swordsmanship. Students are expected to approach training with maturity, attentiveness, and self-control. A willingness to listen, follow instruction, and practice with care is essential to a safe and respectful learning environment.
Uniform
Students will need to purchase a training uniform consisting of a keikogi (training jacket), hakama (pleated trousers), and obi (belt). SIR does not require specific colors or patterns; however, entirely white uniforms are not permitted. Before ordering, we recommend consulting an instructor for guidance on suitable options and proper sizing.
Equipment
The school has a limited supply of bokken (wooden swords) and iaitō (unsharpened practice swords) available for students to borrow during class. As students progress, they are encouraged to acquire their own equipment. Please consult an instructor before purchasing; we are happy to help you select equipment appropriate for your training.
